Pep Band & Color Guard

Visit Philadelphia Firstival: First World’s Fair in the U.S.

The Philadelphia Freedom Band is Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ community band, with marching, concert, and jazz ensembles. Pride Bands Alliance is an organization of LGBTQ+ community concert and marching bands from cities around the world. Pride Bands and all of its member bands, including PFB, are dedicated to the goals of promoting LGBTQ+ music, visibility and pride.

The pep band repertoire focuses on music from Philadelphia and some of the stars from our area, as well as music that ties into Philadelphia’s revolutionary and resistant nature.

The Pride Bands Alliance Conference Pep Band and Color Guard will hold an outdoor marching rehearsal in the Gayborhood, culminating at the recently-opened Philly Pride Visitor Center at 12th & Locust! The band will perform a mix of pop tunes that highlight the grit, the joy, and the independent spirit of both Philadelphia and the LGBTQ+ community.

The event, in partnership with Philly Pride 365 and the Philly Pride Visitors Center, will also feature the giant rainbow pride flag that is part of the city’s annual Pride Month celebrations!

As 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence (AKA the semiquincentennial), Philadelphia is celebrating all year long! Our partners at Visit Philadelphia, the region’s tourism board, are hosting a series of Saturday events called 52 Weeks of Firsts, a yearlong, citywide series of events commemorating the semiquincentennial and highlighting the groundbreaking ideas, inventions, and milestones that began here in Philadelphia.

On May 23, the free Saturday Firstival celebrates the 1876 Centennial Exposition, the first World’s Fair in the U.S. Our conference Pep Band and Color Guard have been invited to perform a celebratory mix of Philly-themed hits and patriotic music for Memorial Day weekend, in West Fairmount Park near the Please Touch Museum, which occupies what was the main event hall during the 1876 expo. Learn more about the event here.
